The picture Nia used as her inspiration for this project is called "Christina's World" by Andrew Wyeth. When I look at her project I instantly see the blue water in the background. The water stands out the most to me because it's so blue and well blended together. The water also looks so realistic and beautiful, that's why I think it draws me in the most. I also see that the tree branches and birds lead me to the city. Another thing that is leading is the twirling color on the orange tree that led me to the ground. I also saw that the railing led me to the lady on the bench. Nia's project gives off a sence of peacefulness and wanting. In my opinion the girl on the bench seems like she could either be peaceful or longing for an easier life. If I could name her picture I would call it "The World Through Christina's Eyes." Color was used in this project by expressing the peacefulness of the scene she recreated. When I look at the colors of the building in the city, I get a feeling of excitement. Color is also used in an analogous color sceme on the orange tree. In addition, blues in the water are blended together to make a really realistic looking river. In my opinion the colors on the buildings signify adventure. The colors tell me that the city is filled with adventurous places to explore and it makes me want to jump into the picture and go exploring with the girl sitting on the bench. I believe that Nia recreated this picture because she wanted to add fun and excitement to the woman's life. I think she also wanted to give the women more freedom to move about her life. I personally loved her recreation, it was beautifully done. Her colors blended well with each other and made the picture a delight it look at. I hope that I can create a project that looks as good as this one does.

Artist statement for our Color project
The six project sketchs
Halfway photo
Self portrait with monkeys by Frida Kahlo
Finished project
The artwork I based my project off of was "Self Portait with Monkey's" by Frida Kahlo.
I chose to recreate this painting because it looked like it would be the easiest to do out of all the other options I picked. This artwork symbolizes the love for art I have in my life. I feel like the colors that I used show an emotion of calmness. When I look at the colors that I used I feel very relaxed and at peace. I decided to change the color choice because I wanted to make it completely my own interpretation of Frida Kalhos work. For majority of my painting I used a monochromatic color sceme. For a small portion of it I used an analogous color sceme and a bit of a primary color scheme on some of the plants. To make this project my own I changed the art style and the materials used to create it. The art style that I used to create this piece of art is manga art. I tried to make the people in my picture look like the people in manga. The materials I used to recreate this painting were pencil, white paint, water colors, a canvas, and an outlining pen. The steps I took to create my project were sketching, water coloring, outlining and then adding the white paint to highlight the eyes at the end. I think sketching took me the longest time because I kept erasing what I had drawn. I wanted it to look perfect so I kept erasing it until I got it right. This project took a little longer to complete. I anticipated that I would be done before the due date, but even though I didn't finish it completely on time I still worked really hard and hope that my artwork turned out ok. I think the over all picture turned out exactly as I wanted it too and I'm happy that I was able to work on this project because it helped me practice my drawing and painting skills.
